Purpose of Medical Science and Practice of Rehabilitation Medicine

  • To play an important role in extending healthy life span by taking multidisciplinary approaches, including functional improvement at the organ level, improvement of ADL (Activities of Daily Living), improvement of living environment and social adjustment support, etc.
  • To contribute to society by quality improvement and standardization of medical science and practice of rehabilitation medicine for various patients from the acute phase to the day-to-day living phase

Coordination Among Medical Science and Practice of Rehabilitation Medicine for Different Diseases or Body Parts/Areas, Establishment of Subspecialty Societies, Contribution to Professions Related to Rehabilitation Medicine

  • To reinforce JARM's function as the hub of medical science and practice of rehabilitation medicine, including coordination among academic societies/bodies of other areas of medicine, establishment of subspecialty societies for each phase of acute, recovery and day-to-day living, and coordination with other relevant professional bodies
  • To make an educational contribution to the improvement of other relevant professions, including establishment of the Certification Board for Professions Related to Japanese Rehabilitation Medicine

JARM's Role in Developmental Scenarios for Advanced Treatment Hospitals, Region Comprehensive Care System and Community Medicine

  • The principles of medical science and the practice of rehabilitation medicine during the acute phase

    -To define the significance of medical science and the practice of rehabilitation medicine for the acute phase in each area of medicine

  • The principles of medical science and the practice of rehabilitation medicine during the recovery phase

    -To establish an education system and evidence for medical science and the practice of rehabilitation medicine for the recovery phase

  • The principles of medical science and the practice of rehabilitation medicine during the day-to-day living phase

    -To develop an education system and effective measures for medical science and the practice of rehabilitation medicine for the day-to-day living phase

  • The principles of Care Prevention

    -To establish the position of medical rehabilitation for care prevention

  • To provide the support for establishment of subspecialty societies for the foregoing subjects

Academic and Postgraduate Education of Rehabilitation Medicine

  • To enhance the academic education of rehabilitation medicine at medical educational institutions (to enhance the National Network for Rehabilitation Department of Medical Faculty, promote the establishment of courses in rehabilitation medicine at medical schools in Japan)
  • To develop an education system under the new medical specialty system
  • To standardize the seamless education and training content for each phase of acute, recovery and day-to-day living

Promotion of Study and Research of Rehabilitation Medicine

  • To make an objective assessment of existing approach to treatment, develop state-of-the-art medical technology such as robots and/or new medicines etc., apply rehabilitation medicine to regeneration medicine
